The Preliminary Challenge is the only show of its kind. Offering over $15,000 dollars in prize money for both the horse and rider divisions, this event is certainly one that riders and spectators alike look forward to all year long. This highly anticipated event takes place annually at The Spring Event at Woodside and highlights the talents of horses and riders at the Preliminary Level.

Competition Format

The Woodside Preliminary Challenge gets underway on Friday morning with dressage, evaluated by a panel of two judges. The exciting cross-country phase then takes place on Saturday morning as riders navigate Ian Stark’s challenging cross-country course. Finally, the winners are decided Saturday evening over a special show jumping course set in the Horse Park’s Grand Prix Arena, which has been improved by the addition of new footing. The top 10 horses in each of the two Preliminary Challenge divisions Show Jump in reverse order of standing in front of the large crowd dining at the Saturday Evening Gala.
