Signup to Volunteer Here
Our events would be impossible without the help of our tremendous volunteers. Whether you are fulfilling Young Rider hours, donating your time as an Eventing Parent, or simply assisting us to be a part of the excitement, THANK YOU for helping to make The Event at Woodside possible.
The eventing season at the Horse Park at Woodside continues next with the 2022 Woodside Eventing season. As always we are looking for plenty of volunteers for the Dressage, Cross Country and Stadium Jumping phases of the competition and we hope you will consider volunteering.
We are using the official USEA volunteer sign up web site this year. This site allows volunteers to log their volunteer time and qualify for recognition awards. The site also provides lots of great information and training aids for volunteers. If you are visiting the site for the first time to sign up as a volunteer you will be asked to create a login and profile before accessing the site, this is a very easy step and will only need to be done once. Please let me know if you have any questions about the new site, and if you prefer not to use it, but would rather have me add you to the volunteer list, just let me know and I would be happy to do so.
Please note that the division times on the volunteer web site are tentative right now and will be confirmed one week before the event.
Volunteers will receive a $30 coupon towards a Woodside Eventing Horse Trials or Woodside Eventing logo wear for a half day shift and a $60 coupon for an all day shift.
Thank you for your support for eventing at the Horse Park at Woodside, we look forward to seeing you soon!
Meet our Volunteer Organizers:
Cassie Harkins
Co-Chief Fence Judge and Cross-Country Steward
“I rode in my first event in 1966 or 67 and have been involved with the sport , as a competitor, groom and volunteer, ever since. Over the years I have done almost every job associated with competition, from cutting brush for cross-country fences and running dressage tests, to serving as organizer of the Woodside Horse Trials for 2 years. The only jobs I have never done are drive the water truck and judge dressage. I was a cross-country volunteer at the LA Olympics, served one three-year term on the board of governors of the USCTA (now USEA), and coordinated the Area VI Young Riders program for 2 years. I became involved with the Horse Park in its first year of competitions. That I consider my current position to be relatively easy is due entirely to the wonderful pool of volunteers, who year after year commit to anywhere from one division to two full days, helping cross-country to run smoothly.”

Katrina Deane
Katrina has been recruiting jump judges for Woodside Eventing since 2007. Katrina first became involved with Eventing when her two daughters joined Pony Club and started competing in horse trials. The daughters are now in college, and although not ever brave enough to compete herself, Katrina still enjoys supporting the sport and working with the wonderful team of dedicated volunteers. Katrina lives on the coast in Moss Beach with her husband Peter and dog Logan.

Julie White
Julie has been riding since the age of 5, with a very long and ill-advised break during the college and child-bearing years. She lives in Woodside where she can keeps close tabs on the Horse Park which is her second home, much to the chagrin of her husband. She was a joint DC of the Woodside Pony Club while her daughter was a member. Now that her kids are off to college she can concentrate on riding. Her horse, Winston, who at age 10 is still a baby, might someday help her achieve her goal of competing at the Preliminary level. Meanwhile she helps run several schooling shows each year at the Horse Park. She knows a bit about wine and will regale you on the merits of balance and acidity if you stand still long enough.

Emma Bailey
I grew up on ponies in an event based pony club and came back to pony club when my children started riding. Growing up, I was fortunate to spectate at multiple big Horse Trials and Show Jumping events which fed the bug and taught me how to jump judge at 3* events. After moving from the Cotswolds to Palo Alto in 2007, in looking for a pony for my daughter, I was fortunate to fall into the capable and supportive arms of Woodside Pony Club and our US horse life began.
Since then I have been deeply engaged in all aspects of equestrian life, moving to Woodside in 2010 with a one pony herd which somehow multiplied into 5 horses. Since 2010 I have been a DC of Woodside Pony Club, helped to organize 2 USPC West Championships and through that, go involved with the Woodside Event Volunteer Team. As my daughter grew and began eventing I became more involved in volunteering for XC all over California and learned the different vocabulary and rules of US Eventing. Co running with Julie White the WPC Combined test and Spring Flowers further honed my experience.
My passions are Cross Country, the thrill of the ride fox hunting and hacking the backyard trails in our amazing backyard, the Santa Cruz Mountains. When my daughter went to college, she left me with a talented but tricky 5 gaited Icelandic horse so my current riding goal is learning to ride her well, which is one of the most fun and exciting challenges ever. I’m Chief of Staff for a Biotech company so the horses are grounding and a great relaxation.
I strongly believe that giving back to the community that supported me is an valuable and fulfilling experience and I feel very fortunate to be a small part of the best volunteer group on the west coast, learning from the best.

You may already know Golly as the grease that keeps the great Alliston Equestrian programs running smoothly. Now she has joined the Woodside Volunteer Coordinators to lend her organizational skills and ability to stay-calm-as-heck-no-matter-
Charlotte Freeman
Charlotte Freeman is a Graduate A Pony Clubber who grew up eventing on the East Coast. She competed through the Intermediate/CCI*** level before taking a break from horses for a decade while she worked in post-genocide conflict resolution in the former Communist Bloc and completed her Doctorate in Organizational Leadership. Charlotte began eventing again, this time in the Bay Area, in 2018 and has been fortunate to ride wonderful horses for friends. In the spring of 2020, she successfully moved Laure Woods’ Marvelous Marcoli (an 18Hh pinto Friesian/KWPN/TB who spent the previous 6 years as an upper-level combined driving horse) up to the Preliminary level 12 months after taking him to his first event. When not riding, Charlotte is an executive coach and talent development professional.
